No Luck Today
I watched a lot of poker today and managed to play some also. As I mentioned last night, my buddy Clark was going to play in a $300 buyin $100K Gtd. tourney at the local casino today. I went there to railbird for him about 3 hours into the tournament. He ended up in 19th out of about 400 for $1077. Since he won his way in through a satellite, most of this was profit. Congrats to him on a well-played tournament. From what I could tell, it looked like he played pretty well. Except for maybe his last hand, but I'll talk more about that later.
When I got home I played in a $20+2 tourney on stars and got an 8K pot together at the 100/200 level with 88 vs. A6o vs. AKo, which I lost.
Then later tonight I played a $.5/$1 NL game for about 1/2 hour and won about $20. I ended up calling some guy down with TT on a K9xA9 board and beating his 88 for most of that profit. I also played two more tournaments after this.
The first was a $20 short-handed PL holdem tourney on stars. I was in the top 10 for most of this thing (only about 130 entrants), and ended up getting a massive pot together preflop (and losing it) with KK vs. AKo/blind v. blind for a pot that would given me a hefty chip lead with 20 left. Instead I had a short stack, which I doubled with A2o vs. TT. I finally died when I reraised a very active player's button raise with 46o from the SB for about 1/2 my chips. The flop was 2h3h6h, I put the other 1/2 of my chips in, and he called with the ThQh for the flopped flush. Sweeeeeeeet. So Instead of having a monster stack going to the final two or three tables, I ended up getting 14th when only 12 spots paid.
I also am still playing a $3+R satellite to the sunday $1M tourney, where I currently sit in 32nd/47 (10 seats paid). There've been some funny hands in this one, but they were funny for weird reasons.

This isn't that strange of a thing to happen in a rebuy tournament -- people limp-call amazingly large amounts before the flop with crap quite regularly. What's funny about this is that the same guy started calling other people retards later on in the tournament. So I clearly had to make fun of him for being such an idiot as well. I really don't mind people doing stupid shit and having it work out for them -- that's the entire reason bad poker players keep playing the game. I do mind when that same guy makes fun of others, and it becomes open season on him for being stupid and for being a jackass.

This one is funny because when the guy behind me min-raised preflop, I actually said out loud 'That's an "I want to get my aces cracked" raise.' Luckily for me, I hit my 19-outer on the river to double up.
I just got knocked out of this tournament in 40 place or so. I got my pathetic 10BBs in with TT against JJ and the JJ made quads. It's late, so good night!

Clark played really well, making a call with 88 to win a huge pot among others.
I'm sure he knows that the last hand was a mistake, but if we add it all up it should have been an easy lay down.
There were 19 players left and Clark had about 200k in chips. That is about 1/10 of the chips in play. he limped in with 33, and an opponent who has about 250k thinks and limps inb also. This guy has been playing at the same table for soem time and is playing well.
Mikey and I were then blocked at this point by some fat guy so we couldn't see exactly wwhat happened. Clark told us after that the flop was QQ4, and all of the money went in on the turn. Clark tried to make a move, and unfortuantely that guy had AQ and knocjed him out.
In hindsight it is easy to critize the all in, but I think its great he tried to win more chips. The only thing I can say is that he did this against the stongest player at the table and the only who could bust him. These 2 were by far the chip leaders at the table. i could see the other 2 tables still playing, but I am sure the were 1 and2 overall.
Anyways, Clark played great poker for over 6 hours and got a great cash. Why does clark do extremely well in these huge live tournaments. Maybe everyone we know should chip and stake him at the WSOP main event.
