WSOP Satellite Double Shootouts

Played some $2/$4 early in the day and booked a nice win. After class, I dedcided to have some fun and play some tournaments.

Started out with the $10+R on Stars. Doubled up on the 1st hand with 99 over AQo. Then got my money in preflop with TT vs. KJo and lost, TT vs. A4o and lost, and JJ vs. 33 vs. A5s and lost. I decided to quit after all this since I couldn't seem to get anything going.

I then played 2 WSOP sat. double-shootouts. In the first I had the chip lead for most of the thing, then I ran TT into JJ. Shortly after that I got knocked out on this beauty --

Seat 2: Lucky013 (button) showed [Ah Kh] and won (3300) with three of a kind, Aces
Seat 7: Hero (small blind) showed [2s 5s] and lost with two pair, Aces and Fives
Seat 8: Cougaress (big blind) folded on the Flop

Obviously it's extremely disappointing to lose to a guy who limps on the button in a 3-handed game with AKs. Man these things are soft.

In the other double shootout, we got down to 3 at the final table with the chip counts at about 4000 (me) vs. 5500 vs. 5500. The payouts were W$650 for 1st/2nd and $65 for 3rd. And it was also a turbo blind structure. Given this, both of my opponents agreed to a chop where I took W$400 and each of them took W$450 + $32.50.

I figured that my equity (given that $W has the same value as $) in this spot is
((1365 - (3 * 65)) / (4000 / 15000)) + 65 = $377

and their equity is
((1365 - (3 * 65)) / (5500 / 15000) ) + 65 = $494

So the deal turns out to be pretty good for me. For some reason the Pokerstars support guy wouldn't run the chip chop values for us because there was W$ involved, which I thought was a little strange. So I guesstimated the values and actually got pretty close. Good for me.

I already won one of these $650 seats, and I'm waiting to see if Stars is going to allow people to use W$ to buy directly into the televised WSOP preliminary events. If so, I'll be playing in a $1,000 NLH event. If not, I don't know what I'll be doing with it. I really don't want to play in the main event at this point due to the fact that it is pretty much a crapshoot. Not that any single tournament isn't a crapshoot, but I'm much more comfortable playing a $1,000 crapshoot than a $10,000 crapshoot.
